Pictures EVERYWHERE!
This is by far THE best ever that i have seen coming from the guys themselves, *N Sync. This book brings with itself the real lifes of these VERY talented guys. You are going to be SO entertain with its awesome pictures, that you won't even bother with the reading. You should read it, ofcourse, because that is the reason why they made this book. They want to let people know who they are and to also show the world that they are here to say. They are the best group ever. They don't have their 15 minutes of fame and leave. These guys make a mark wherever they go. Chris, Justin, JC, Joey, and Lance: Congratulations on your sellings and remember that GOD is on your side. I love you guys snoopy8876.

The best 'N Sync book yet!
This is, by far, the best book that i have ever read that is actually written by them! To me , they are the best boy band out there and are totally different from the backstreet boys. Anyway, the book has tons of great pictures of the entire group. Most of them are super cute too. If you are a fan of Lance, JC, Joey or Chris you will absolutely love this book because there are an equal amount of pictures of each member and not all pictures of Justin. There isn't a whole lot of information on the group though, so if you are looking for a book on that, this really isn't the book for you. Although, if you want tons of great color pictures, cool quotes from all of the guys, and behind the scenes pictures of their awesome, must see, concerts, then this is a must have book to add to your collections. I am a big "N Sync fan and i support them all the way. I think they are a great group of guys and they totally deserve the loving support from all you 'N Sync fans out there. Stay 'N SYNC!

Expensive but worth the money!
Yes, I know this book is a little pricy but I think that it is worth every dime that I spent. Sure, there isn't THAT much info on the guys themselves but there are a lot of quotes and tons and tons of pix! The book itself is mini-poster size so all of the pictures are pretty big. Most are from concerts of the tour last year and, let me tell you, these guys are adorable :o) I especially liked the last pic which was of Lance, asleep. Anyway, I recommend this book for any *NSYNC fan!

I don't think people really realize how hard these guys work. We always see the fun part of it. But until I read the book, did I understand the hard days and long hours they have to put in, and you never here them complain about it. They make it look really easy, but we know that it's not. They do a really great job at what they do. They are all a very classy bunch of guys. Great job guys. Stay real. Love, Angie

The biography!
I have read several books on the Backstreet Boys, i have been a huge fan of them for over 2yrs. And as much as i thought i knew them. I had NO idea of how much i didn't know until i read this book. It gave a tremendous insite on each of the Boys, life childhood and thier road to sucess in which and why they are where they are today. I was blown away with the imformation and professionalism this author used. I definatly recomend this book for any BSB fans or just someone who wants to learn more about them, or someone looking for a great biography. It also has some great photo's of the BSB from thier childhood up to now. This a truly remarkle book on the Backstreet Boys. And after reading this book you'll have a complete different outlook on the boys, you'll think of them not as huge massive pop stars. But just the sweet down to earth guys, we all dream of finding. I just can't say enough about this bio. So i'll stop now. If any BSB/Nick Carter fan wants to email me feel free.-Shai

Best BSB BOOK!
I think this is the best backstreet boy book ever written. I loved all of the stories. It was so much fun to read about how the backstreet boys first got together. If you have not read this book yet and you are a fan you must have it! Even if you just like to listen to their music you should read it. I think that anyone who wants to be a popstar should read this too. Well I could write 20 pages of this book. I'll leave now but before I do I'd like to thank AMAZON.COM and their customers. Because with out them I wouldn't of known about this book. THANKYOU EVERYONE!!

Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana
Published in Paperback by Main Street Books (October, 1993)
Author: Michael Azerrad
Average review score:

Good read; but mostly fictional tale of Kurt Cobain
This book is a nice read if you don't mind the inaccurate stories of Kurt Cobain and the musical group Nirvana. It seems Kurt told the author - Michael Azerrad - lots of bogus stories (which Kurt was known to do with the press) and Mr. Azerrad swallowed the tales hook, line, and sinker.

I blame the writer since many of the inaccuracies could have easily been determined to be truth or a lie by simply going to the court house and looking up past records involving Kurt Cobain, or checking with a few 'witnesses', but it seems Mr. Azerrad just wrote whatever Kurt told him and so it's hard to really enjoy this book since it is chock full of lies and fables.

If you wish to read a more accurate portrayal of Kurt Cobain, I would suggest Heavier Than Heaven. It too contains some inaccuracies (the author writes that Dave Grohl was shirtless during his performance of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' on Saturday Night Live, which if the author actually took the time to view the performance could easily see this wasn't true). Of course these types of inaccuracies are cosmetic; whereas, Come As You Are is just a fictional tale with hints of truth sporadically thrown in.

one of the best books on nirvana
I read this book for school. I found this ...old highlighted version of the book so I started to read it, and I was immediately hooked on it. I couldn't put the book down. I later received this book for my birthday. However, the book is more of Kurt's life, but gave excellent facts of the whole band and how it originated. It told of how Kurt battled drug addiction, and how the press hounded Courtney and the unwanted fame Nirvana had. The book is very well detailed, and the book seems like Kurt was actually telling you his life story. Several people that hardly knew who Nirvana was demanded to read the book as soon as I was finished with it. So of course I highly recommend it!

Come As You Are: Awesome Book
I went out and bought this book hoping to find out some information on NIRVANA/Kurt Cobain, needless to say that's just what I found when I read Come As You Are:The Story Of Nirvana. This book is one of the most interesting books on NIRVANA I've ever read, I recomend this book to ALL NIRVANA FANS or to anyone interested in Kurt.
This book starts off by telling you about Kurt's life as a child and then how he formed the band, and about being on tour and everything in between. This book tells a lot of stories about NIRVANA and Kurt, and there is a huge amount of actual conversation between Kurt, Krist, and Dave. This book really made me feel like I was actually there, the book is so well-written that you can get a really clear image of what is going on. Not to mention there are a ton of pictures in this book, I would say this is one of the best NIRVANA books I've ever read. A must have for anyone who likes NIRVANA or Kurt.

The Heart and Soul of Nick Carter: Secrets Only a Mother Knows
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (December, 1998)
Authors: Jane Carter and Nick Carter
Average review score:

a book about the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
a book that gives us the inside story, where other books about Nick will never reach.A book for all die-hard Nick Carter fans. You have to get it! The book is filled with info about Nick's life,it's filled with joys and tears, that make you cry and laugh all at the same time. And at the end,you look at Nick in a different light,he's not just a blonde haired, blue eyes, great smile guy in one of the worlds most talented bands,he's a person. He worked hard to achieve his goal, and thank the lord he did,or I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, without hearing his voice! This is one of the best books that I have ever read,if you are one of the die-hard Nick fans, like me,you'll know that this book will be worth every cent of your money. Mrs.Jane Carter,I salute you for raising Nick in your tender love and care, thanks for helping him achieve his goal!

By knowing the mother, you know the son...
When Mrs. Carter said that she would talk about her in the book, I've realized that it was a matter of fact that she should talk about her first. Thanks for opening your heart to us Mrs. Carter. Now I understand why Nick do this or that. The parents reflects on their children. After reading "The Heart And Soul Of Nick Carter: Secrets Only A Mother Knows" (which I've finally found after several months of seeking!) I can now say that I know Nick, better than I used to. Of course, I agree with the ones that say that is not a real author who wrote it, but Mrs. Carter probably wrote it with her heart, not her head. It's sweet and simple. You don't have to use the finest words of the dictionnary to make people understand who your son is. I will look at Nick differently now... It was a good idea to write a book about Nick, by his mother. I wish that all the BSB's mothers could do the same about their son. Thanks Mrs. Carter, for opening the gates of your heart, soul, family, house, and for sharing those secrets with us.

Honest, loyal, and true...the best Nick Carter book around.
I love the Backstreet Boys and I've been a huge fan since '97, and I'm an even MORE huger fan of Nick Carter. THE HEART AND SOUL OF NICK CARTER: SECRETS ONLY A MOTHER KNOWS is one of the best books you can find on Nick Carter. Though it's a little out-dated now I believe (the book was made in like, '98 and the Backstreet Boys since then have done a lot more plus made two new albums MILLENNIUM and BLACK & BLUE), I still think this book gives an accurate bio of Nick and his amazingly talented family.

There is not one dull or boring moment while reading this book. Jane Carter carefully describes what their family life was like both in the past and present, along with the ancestors and family relatives. When you're reading this book, you really do feel like you're apart of the "Carter Clan", as Jane calls her family. You'll laugh and cry and cheer throughout this book. And even though I'm a huge fan and have never been to a Backstreet concert or seen them live in person, I now feel a lot closer to Nick Carter, and not just him, but to Kevin, AJ, Brian, and Howie as well.

Jane Carter also writes about the troubles she and Nick went through while going to auditions, performing in front of audiences during Nick's pre-Backstreet years, and even meeting AJ and Howie for the first time. She also writes about the very first song Nick ever sang to her - "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" - and why that was so important to her. She writes about the ups and downs her family had to go through to help Nick achieve his dream as a successful entertainer, which I think he has now successed!

Besides, the fabulous well-written bio, she also adds a ton of family photos for us fans to look at and enjoy and even a Nick Carter quiz at the ending (I took it and got a perfect score without even looking at the answers!). This book will answer all of your Nick Carter questions. And though it may only be for Nick Carter fans, I'm sure many Backstreet fans will enjoy this as well. I actually think you don't even need to be a Backstreet fan to enjoy this book. Maybe if you read it you would understand Nick Carter and his Backstreet fellas and would start to appreciate him more and see him as a real person. I also don't think Jane Carter brags about her son; she is proud of his major accomplishments and what he has done for the family. And she isn't afraid to show it.

I think Jane Carter and Bob Carter are the perfect role models for parents everywhere. They show love and affection to their family and to each other. They try to help achieve their childrens' dreams and do not discourage them. They do not do drugs or commit violence or abuse each other or their children. The Carter Clan is a beautiful family and very gifted and talented. I think they should all be respected and people should stop trashing them because that is just wrong when you don't even know a thing about them. Maybe after you read THE HEART AND SOUL OF NICK CARTER you will change your mind about trashing this family and start to respect them. Great read. I loved all the photos. If you're a fan of books then this is definitely one you must try!

The Real Frank Zappa Book
Published in Hardcover by Poseidon Pr (June, 1989)
Average review score:

Not an autobiography, but quite fun
We get some of everything with this one.

It gives us a feel for his personality and speaking style. Italics, underlining, and boldface are used liberally; I could hear his voice as I read.

It gives us a nice collection of anecdotes from various stages of Zappa's career, from his high school years up through the orchestral work with the LSO - even a couple of tales from the 1988 'Best Band You Never Heard'. If you like these, you will wish there were more, though.

It gives us what has to be the best general description of a composer's work ever ('wiggling air molecules, changing over time'). That chapter alone is worth the cost of the book, if you are at all interested in music or art.

We also get the political Zappa, some lyrics, the Zappa home life, and even a bit of What Frank Eats (whatever the kids don't, apparently).

The only thing we don't get (and this is why I wish he'd lived another 30 years) is some detailed analysis of his compositions. We get a couple of places where he is discussing musical theory and practice from a technical perspective (chord progressions that cannot occur in doowop, or why jazz drummers are not normally appropriate in a Zappa band), there is no music printed in the book to help the interested reader follow along. Certainly I can't fault the book for this, but, man, it would have been nice if he'd written one like that.

If you are a student of music, a budding composer, artist, or just think Frank freaks folks out, this is for you.

Know your Zappa!
Working at a library has almost no perks. I shelve the travel section so there isn't much stimulation in the way of brain waves(then again, my job is pretty tedious to begin with). However, one day while wondering through a friend's section I found a gem. I found The Real Frank Zappa Book. When their were breaks in my work, I would grab this book and read it feverously. Even with my increasing respect and love for Zappa's work, I still found this a great book. It packs a sharp wit, biting comentary, and overal, is just a good quick read.

The book covers Zappa's origin, his early musical influences, the tough times of M.O.I.(Mothers of Invention), insight as to his musical creation process, and even a indepth look into his battle with the well-known PMRC. The great thing is even with all this retrospect, the man never loses his sense of humor. Sometimes slapstick, sometimes satire, always truthful.

Anyone interested in the man that was Zappa, I highly recommend this book. Those who are interested in becoming a musician, I also recomend this book(his musical insight is very inspiring). In fact, I recomend this book to all. Its just a shame he died before his time. Zappa was a true inovator of music. There will never be another Frank Zappa.

A peek into the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen
By way of dissing Zappa's famous appearance before Congress to argue against warning labels on records, my favorite conservative columnist Don Feder derisively refers to Frank Zappa as a "rock creature" and makes fun of him for naming his daughter Moon Unit. (You'll find these remarks in _A Jewish Conservative Looks at Pagan America_. Feder is usually better than this.)

But the fact is that Zappa was a genuine homegrown American original, a musical genius, and a thoroughly subversive Enemy Of The State. And whatever one thinksof their names, the rest of us should have children like Zappa's. (They're all grown up now, of course, but Moon was a highly poised young lady even at the age of thirteen. I don't remember seeing any of Feder's kids on talk shows when _they_ were teenagers.)

Love or hate his music; agree or disagree that his sometimes-acerbic social commentary often went over the line into sheer pornography. If you want to meet the man himself, this book is the only one you need to read.

It's all in his own words, as told to Peter Occhiogrosso. The style will be recognizable to anyone who has ever read the liner notes on a Zappa album. And the content is part autobiography, part correction of underground-rock-grapevine misconceptions, part almost-libertarian political activism, part musing on the nature of musical composition.

A handful of highlights, chosen from among many: He proposes that music could be digitally downloaded, an idea whose time apparently hadn't come when Zappa first thought of it. The chapter on his "pornography trial" in the UK is hilarious, not least because it includes selections from the actual transcripts. And if you want to know _why_ his kids turned out so well-spoken and mature at such early ages, check out his advice on childrearing.

By the way, Zappa did not do drugs, no matter how many well-meaning imbeciles tell you otherwise. On the contrary, he was one of a handful of anti-drug crusaders in the music industry, and one of an even smaller handful who wasn't a recovering addict himself. Reality is better than drugs anyway, and Zappa knew it.

His untimely death from prostate cancer left a gaping hole; he was irreplaceable. But thank goodness for this book.

U2 at the End of the World
Published in Hardcover by Delacorte Press (June, 1995)
Author: Bill Flanagan
Average review score:

If You Love Rock n Roll, You'll Love this Book
Flanagan pulls the reader into the book immediately with an anecdote that involves Bono in his underwear, German reunification, & angry homeowners. It only gets better from there. Rock n roll biographies are a dime a dozen, but this book belongs in a category all by itself, primarily because it's actually well-written--EXTREMELY well written! Whether you're a U2 fan or not, you'll have to appreciate Flanagan's ability to turn a phrase, vividly describe a scene, or just seemingly be in the right place at the right time to see something really incredible. You'll experience firsthand U2 in the studio, on the road, & after hours. Flanagan had seemingly unlimited access to the band, resulting in a book so revealing, it's amazing U2 let it get out! If you're a U2 fan, this read will be a revelatory experience. If you're not, you'll probably find yourself down at the local record store buying U2 CDs before you've even finished reading

BRILLIANT BILL
I bought this book in 1995, saw you can write reviews, and I thought so much of this book couldn't resist. It is one of 'the books' to read on this band. I have read it twice from cover to cover as I not only enjoyed getting to know the guys on a personal level (especially Bono who I totally respect) but it is really funny, why the media portrays U2 as a band that takes themselves so seriously I would not know, they are guys with such a balanced view of the world knowing when to laugh and when to cry. Bill's writing is infectious and like other good reviews I agree 'could not put it down' read it three days.

Honestly couldn't put it down!
"U2 at the End of the World" is, I suspect, a book you would enjoy even if you were not a U2 fan, or just a casual fan. It's funny and entertaining but still manages to keep intact the integrity of all the people involved. You don't ever feel duped here, that this is some publicity stunt or you're not getting the whole story. I found it interesting to read the author's note at the end, where he seems genuinely grateful for this 3-year journey with a band that had every right and opportunity to make him feel an outsider, but instead embraced him. I came off reading it with a new appreciation for not only U2 but the music industry as well, a new appreciation for the trials and celebrations that make up their world. It's a tough life, but U2 have found their understanding of it. The book is especially helpful to Bono, as someone with only a vague idea of his public image can get a very skewed impression of him. He's a lot more human and funny than you expect- and also a lot more brave. He's still got the ego, but is redeemed by his strong beliefs, and finally he comes off as just as confused, vibrant, and driven as the rest of us. What a relief!

Three Dog Nightmare: The Chuck Negron Story
Published in Hardcover by Renaissance Books (June, 1999)
Authors: Chuck Negron and Chris Blatchford
Average review score:

riviting, compelling, and unbelievable
It's hard to believe that he survived to sing another day. The other reviews don't give adequate credit to Robin, his current wife. Chuck gives her and the others who stood by him a great deal of credit for his eventual recovery. I had trouble putting the book down. Chuck went from being a phenomenal success to a miserable human being who neglected his family and friends. This book tells it all and in the end inspires with the success story of recovery. If you were or are a Three Dog Night fan or if you want to read a great human interest story, don't miss this book.

WHAT AN INSPIRING BOOK!
I have been a fan of 3DN (especially Chuck) since 1969, saw them in concert many, many times over the years. I wondered what happened to Chuck when I saw the other two at an outdoor concert in Springfield IL in the mid-80's. Didn't realize what he was going through. Being a Gemini (also June 8) and a recovering alcoholic I found it quite amazing that we've gone through alot of the same things....being abandoned as a child, then as adult...you find your solace in something to deaden the pain. I understand. Thank you Chuck for sharing your life in such an honest, inspiring way....your story has helped me. I have "Am I Still in Your Heart?" it is beautiful and the answer to that question is "yes, Chuck you're still in my heart.....never really left. I thank God that your HP gave you your wonderful voice back. God bless you and your family. Oh by the way, I read the entire book in 2-1/2 days....and am going to read it again. Like the big blue books says, "We must be entirely honest with somebody if we expect to live or happily in this world."

You'll want to read it twice in case you missed something!
I read this book in a matter of hours. I couldn't put it down! It had to be painful for him to re-live everything in this book, because most if it isn't pretty. It's a gut wrenching story, but has a happy ending. If you were a huge Three Dog Night fan as I was, there are moments where you will feel cheated by what drugs stole from you as well as Chuck. But, he's back, he's clean, he's happy, and God bless him - he's sounding as good as ever! The fact that he is still alive to write a book like this is truly a miracle. Read it - it's an inspiration.

If Only
Published in Paperback by Transworld Publishers Ltd (02 September, 2002)
Author: Geri Halliwell
Average review score:

A Good Role Model?
This book depicted the life to date of Geri Halliwell from rag to riches. It told me the other aspect of Geri that I never knew. It's saddening to note that behind the limelight, she was a shattered person, wanting reassurance from her loved ones. Her growing pains were enormous & should I have a daughter like her, I would have died of heart attack. It's comforting to know that she knows when to turn back & time has definitely molded her into a persona which Madonna would be proud of. The highlight of the book would have to be her telling us the formation of the team which would subsequently be known universally as the Spice Girls, thus, the term, Girl Power. We also have a glimpse of the eventual sacking of their Manager, Simon Fuller & the reason why Geri decided to pull out in the end. The book is blessed with optimism ie. if you think you have the right stuff to make things happen, just do it as she's a living example that persistency does pay off. Probably luck has something to do with it but when it comes down to the crunch, attitude matters too. Thumbs up to her for her honesty & I wish her all the best for her future endeavour.

GREAT BOOK!!
A book capturing the life and times of Geri Halliwell. A Spice fan may love this book as well but it proves to be a full-force autobiography on the woman formerly known as Ginger Spice.

I would not recommend this book to kids, because the truth does hurt. Ginger Spice was a part of the character known as Geri Halliwell. The book shows many different viewpoints of her life. From nieve English girl to a confident superstar. From being a former glamour (nude) model to a television presenter, maybe the suburban moms/dads might want to flip through the heavily detailed pages before they let their kids read it.

The book "If Only" is very down-to-earth and contains so many subjects that each of us readers could relate to. After the book triggered many memories of my own, I couldn't help to think - Dreams really do come true.

Must read!
Hi,

My name is Chris, and I have been a fanatic of the Spice Girls, since they hit the scene in '96. When I first met these 5 lasses from Britian, Geri I think had to be my least favorite. After she left the Spice Girls, I had to say...I didn't care. When she came out with her solo CD, 'Schizophonic' I could have cared less. Then, I heard her single 'Look at Me' and read somewhere online, the message behind it. I bought the CD, and have not stopped listening to it since. When she came out with her book, I had to buy it. Geri Halliwell, has to be one of the most talented singers I have listened to in a LONG time. She has gone from nothing, to being a world-wide star. Her book, 'If Only' goes through the rollercoasters of everyday life. From relationships, to suffering from an eating disorder, to become a pop star. And NOT overnight, as some television reporters have said. In my life(being 17) I have read, a total of 2 books from cover to cover. When I bought 'If Only' I could not put it down, and finished it in two days. This is one, if not the only, real book that EVERYONE should get their hands on.
